Bio BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ON THE FOUNDER, KEVIN SIMMONS. A Bit From Kevin. I currently live outside of Columbia, SC with my beautiful wife, Amanda. We have been married for over four years. Amanda is beautiful, loving, and a treasure to me as her husband. In our free-time we enjoy watching movies in bed, taking pictures, long, hot days at the beach. and rainy, cold days in the mountains. Marriage is a beautiful thing; it’s a constant mechanism that God uses to confront me with my sinful, self-centered approach to life.

I grew up in Summerville, SC until I was sixteen. As a child, I was shy and awkward. I couldn’t spell, liked to draw in class, and pick my nose a lot. I played baseball, because my dad thought that was the safest sport for this accident-prone little kid. I was pretty good at it.

I was pretty good at baseball until I was involved in an accident as a twelve-year old that burned me over 25% of my body. I spent two months in a hospital and a little over two years getting back to normal. Adolescence is tough enough, but it was dramatically complicated for me during the recovery.

As a sixteen year old, I left home and moved in with my grandparents in Norwood, North Carolina. Until then, my relationship with Jesus was something that affected where I was going and not who I was becoming. All of that changed.

I met a couple people when I moved that lived Jesus. They lived Jesus in school, at home, and everywhere they went. I didn’t know Jesus wanted to change you. I didn’t know that He could. After wrestling with the decision, I decided to join the re:nascent.

As I made that decision, Jesus changed me and my life hasn’t been the same sense. Facts about Kevin. Kevin wears several hats at Friend Church: He practically oversees both the Worship and Discipleship ministries of the church. You can see Kevin leading worship on Saturdays and Sunday. You can also see him teaching from the platform and in the classroom at Friend Church. He also oversees the day to day operations of the ministry.

Kevin absolutely loves his church. Friend Church’s founding pastor, Greg Dowey, and Kevin share a common vision for a church that is both biblically responsible, creative, and free from the institutional crap that bogs most churches from fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus.

People’s lives are being changed at Friend Church, and we thank Jesus for His grace and the opportunity to be a part of what He is doing.
